The ‘SANKALP Documentation Center’ will combine advanced ICT with native ingenuity
and the strong business acumen inherently present in rural communities to
enhance the rural community’s access to information and communications
services. This will lead to new livelihoods opportunities and create new jobs
for local entrepreneurs.
To ensure that we select the appropriate technology and applications for the
business needs of the Documentation Center, we will follow the industry
guidelines for document management technology evaluation and selection.
Content Management
The Sankalp Documentation Center was conceived to provide wide range of digital
content in the field of Information & Communication Technologies (ICT), including:

High-quality digital content for the learning
environment: Advice, guidance, products and services relating to the
use of ICT in any area of education and lifelong learning, including:
§
Innovative, interactive CD-ROMs for use in pre-school and primary education.
§
Exciting, participative online activities and events
for use in the classroom.
§
Innovative applications/action research into the
effective use of ICT in the context of pre-school and primary education.
§
Generic educational online resources for use by either
teachers or pupils across the pre-school and primary sectors of education.
§
Educational consultancy across all subject areas and
across all age ranges to support the development of CD-ROMs, online activities
and online resources.
§
Content management Systems (CMS): A wide range of digital resources for customisable and scalable solutions for
commercial applications (e.g. internet, CD-ROM), including:
§
Creative writing (including 'ghost' writing - collaborating with a Firm or Individual)
§
Technical writing (including 'White Papers' and researched materials)
§
Copy editing (General, Business-to-Business, Corporate
and Scientific)
§
Proofreading (General, Corporate and Scientific)
§
Grant writing
§
Screen writing and story board preparation
§
Desktop publishing
§
Pre-press content generation, including advertising and publicity/promotional materials

CD-ROM corporate presentations and publications
Specific functionality would include interfaces with other
ICT systems, workflow and process facilities, templates, user registration and
personalised user web pages.
Internet Services
The Internet services of the Documentation Center (DC) will:
§
Provide answers to requests for commercial or agricultural research questions, including bibliographic information;
§
Give advice on the selection and use of electronic databases and electronic resources;
§
Advice on the preparation of search strategies, in general, and online searches on specific subjects, in particular;
§
Hold training and education workshops in the use of diverse information resources and services.
Livelihood Programs
With respect to the livelihood programs, focussing on energy and shelter projects, the DC will:
§
Conduct workshops on energy products and services and community housing, in order to develop concrete proposals and documentation for continuing technology evaluation and selections;
§
Convene a series of community dialogues in order to expand the network of people involved in affordable energy services and housing issues and their solutions.
Social Programs
The social component of the work done at the Documentation Center (DC) will focus on evaluating the actual
progress in achieving community improvement goals through community documentation.
By providing milestones, objectives and indicators of success to the target
community, the DC will assist in the planning, implementation and continuous
assessment of community goals. The bjectives for ‘Community Development’ shall be to:

Work with local community service agencies towards helping community members to improve their skills for self-sufficiency;
§
Maintain and disseminate databases on the physical redevelopment and human capacity building efforts in the target community, in order to properly document community change processes.
